Sri Lanka Cricket announces major structural and domestic reforms
The Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee has announced a comprehensive series of reforms aimed at rebuilding the organization into a world-class entity. A new Sri Lanka Cricket Constitution has been drafted and submitted to the government for parliamentary presentation.
Key structural changes include reducing the number of Major Tier A domestic clubs from 14 to 10 over the next two years and extending the Major Club Tier A League Tournament from three days to four days to better prepare players for Test cricket. The committee also plans to introduce a structured domestic calendar, revamp school cricket, and appoint a national curator.
To improve technical standards, the committee is recruiting former ICC umpires Lyndon Hannibal and Ruchira Palliyaguruge, appointing new district and provincial coaches, and restructuring sports medicine with the help of Dr. Alex Kountouris. Additionally, the reforms include introducing a sports psychologist for the national men’s team and professional development programs for women cricketers. Financial measures involve cutting expenditures by streamlining staffing, discontinuing unnecessary consultancy, and withdrawing from certain legal proceedings.
