Sri Lanka cricket team fined by ICC for slow over-rate

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a 15 percent match fee fine on the Sri Lankan team following a slow over-rate during their first One Day International against England. The match, held on September 22 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street, saw Sri Lanka finish three overs behind the required rate.

Match referee Jeff Crowe applied the penalty under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which mandates a 5 percent fine of match fees for players and support staff for every over bowled below the minimum requirement. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis accepted the charge, precluding the need for a formal hearing.

In the match itself, England secured an 89-run victory. England scored 265 runs, led by Harry Brook’s 67 and Joe Root’s 44, while Will Jacks took 5 wickets for 22 runs. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 176 in 37 overs, with Dunith Wellalage scoring 45 and Mendis contributing 42.
