Sri Lanka deploys additional security personnel to Haiti
Sri Lanka has deployed an additional contingent of security personnel to Haiti to reinforce the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission. This latest group, which departed on October 16, consists of 218 personnel, including 173 members of the Sri Lanka Army and 45 members of the Police Special Task Force (STF).
This deployment follows a previous movement on October 14 involving 280 Army personnel. The mission aims to assist Haitian authorities in combating widespread gang violence and restoring stability in the Caribbean nation. Sri Lankan troops are tasked with conducting patrols using armored vehicles and securing essential supply routes to facilitate the movement of goods.
In addition to its own deployment, the Sri Lanka Army provided logistical support, including accommodation and transport, to a 50-member Bangladeshi contingent traveling through the country to join the same mission.
