Sri Lanka excludes Lahiru Udara from Test squad

Sri Lanka has excluded opening batter Lahiru Udara from its Test squad, a decision that has prompted scrutiny regarding the team’s selection strategy. Udara’s omission is notable given his recent career-best score of 188 against the West Indies.

The decision comes at a time of uncertainty for the top order, as established specialist opener Pathum Nissanka is facing fitness concerns. With no clear specialist replacement named to partner Nissanka, the selectors may be forced to adjust the batting lineup. Potential alternatives include Pasindu Sooriyabandara opening the innings, or Kusal Mendis moving into an opening role, which could allow newcomer Anjala Bandara to take over wicketkeeping duties.
