Sri Lanka expressway crash involves three vehicles after driver brakes for snake
A three-vehicle collision occurred on Sri Lanka’s Southern Expressway after a driver performed an emergency stop to avoid hitting a snake crossing the road. The incident took place between the Pinnaduwa and Kokmaduwa interchanges.
The sudden braking caused a luxury bus to strike the rear of the initial vehicle, which then spun into another luxury car before coming to rest against the left-side guardrail. Police reported that the driver of the first car and two female passengers from Ratmalana sustained injuries. All three individuals were transported to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle for medical attention.
Traffic safety authorities noted that while the attempt to protect wildlife is understandable, sudden maneuvers at expressway speeds pose significant risks to motorists. The crash caused temporary disruptions to traffic flow on the highway.
