Sri Lanka financial markets show stable yields and currency
Sri Lanka’s financial markets showed stability with minor fluctuations in government securities and currency values. The Sri Lankan rupee remained steady against the US dollar, trading at 330.55/65 in the spot market. Despite this stability, the rupee had depreciated by 6.3 percent against the US dollar over the course of the year through the end of September.
In the government securities market, Treasury yields experienced slight shifts. Short-term bill yields edged lower, with the 91-day and 364-day bills yielding 9.20% and 9.90% respectively. Mid-term yields saw modest increases, including a 5-basis-point rise for both two-year and three-year maturities. At a recent Treasury bill auction, strong demand was noted as bids reached LKR 201.2 billion for the LKR 80 billion offered.
On the Colombo Stock Exchange, the All Share Price Index recorded a marginal increase of 0.04 percent, while the S&P SL20 rose by 0.14 percent.
