Sri Lanka flour millers Prima and Serendib raise wheat flour prices

Sri Lanka's two dominant wheat flour milling companies, Prima and Serendib, have announced a retail price increase of Rs. 17 per kilogram. The price hike is expected to impact the cost of bread, bakery products, and various staple foods across the country.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has criticized the increase, stating it will place further pressure on households already struggling with the cost of living. Premadasa noted that the rise in flour prices will lead to higher costs for flour-based foods and highlighted broader economic concerns, including inadequate minimum wages and high poverty rates in the country.
