Sri Lanka implements AI for transport safety and telecommunications

Sri Lanka is implementing artificial intelligence to modernize its public transport and telecommunications sectors. In the transport sector, AI-powered monitoring systems are being deployed across the national bus network to improve road safety. These systems use onboard cameras and advanced algorithms to track driver behavior in real time, flagging dangerous patterns such as excessive speeding, harsh braking, and fatigue.

Simultaneously, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has announced a strategic priority to become an ‘AI-native telco’. The company is utilizing AI for customer service through chatbots, improving backend efficiency with AI agents, and implementing personalized credit control. Additionally, the technology is being applied to network management to assist with fault identification and resolution.
