Sri Lanka Keeps CCC+ Credit Rating Amid Boost in Debt Transparency Rankings

Standard & Poor's (S&P) reaffirmed Sri Lanka's sovereign credit rating at CCC+, noting stronger tax and revenue collection as a positive development while warning that the country's high public‑debt levels, reliance on external financing and exposure to global economic headwinds keep its credit profile vulnerable.

The Institute of International Finance’s 2026 Investor Relations and Debt Transparency Report placed Sri Lanka fourth among the world’s fastest‑improving economies for debt transparency and investor relations, raising its score from 37.33 to 43.67 and moving it into the highest‑performing category. The report also ranked the nation fifth in specific debt‑transparency metrics and highlighted progress in publishing ESG data.
