Sri Lanka launches website for education reform inquiries

The Sri Lankan government has launched the Reform Information & Enquiry Service (RIES) website to facilitate public inquiries and provide accurate information regarding proposed education reforms. The official website, https://edureformfact.moe.gov.lk, was inaugurated by Prime Minister and Minister of Education Harini Amarasuriya.

During the launch, Prime Minister Amarasuriya stated that the reforms aim to transform the entire education system rather than simply revising the school curriculum. The implementation is planned in phases, with the first phase targeting Grade 1 in 2026 and subsequent plans to introduce reforms to Grade 6 in 2027.

To support these changes, the government is currently implementing teacher training, infrastructure development, and digitalization initiatives. Amarasuriya also called for a national dialogue and urged media institutions to help ensure accurate information reaches the public, emphasizing that education should not become a political battleground.
