Sri Lanka Navy recovers sunken Fast Attack Craft P 4447

The Sri Lanka Navy has successfully completed a complex maritime salvage operation to recover Fast Attack Craft P 4447. The vessel went down on 15 August during a routine patrol off Angulana.

The initial emergency response involved the Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Police, and local fishermen, resulting in the rescue of 11 crew members. The body of the vessel’s Second-in-Command was later recovered on 4 September.

Following the search and rescue phase, specialist diving and salvage teams worked to raise the craft from approximately 80 feet underwater. The operation faced challenges including rough seas and poor visibility. Technical assistance was provided by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Colombo Dockyard PLC. The vessel has been towed to the Colombo Dockyard premises for further assessment.
