Sri Lanka Navy vessel involved in sea accident off Angulana

A Sri Lanka Navy Dvora fast attack craft encountered distress in the waters off the Angulana coast on Saturday morning, August 15. The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 AM while the vessel was returning from a routine patrol.

Eleven naval personnel were successfully rescued and subsequently hospitalized; their conditions are reported to be stable. The rescue efforts involved the Sri Lanka Navy, the Sri Lanka Air Force, Angulana Police, and members of the local fishing community. The Sri Lanka Air Force deployed Mi-17 and Bell 412 helicopters to monitor the vessel and assist in the operation.

One naval personnel remains missing. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate the individual. The cause of the accident and the extent of the damage to the vessel are currently under investigation.
