Sri Lanka opposition to move no-confidence motion against Speaker

In Sri Lanka, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) opposition has announced plans to submit a no-confidence motion against Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne this Friday. Minister Bimal Rathnayake, the Leader of the House, stated that the government is prepared to debate the motion during the first parliamentary week following its formal submission.

Separately, Eran Wickramaratne, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, has addressed concerns regarding the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) stance on political involvement in sports administration. Wickramaratne argued that the ICC must recognize the specific context of Sri Lanka’s reforms and noted that proposed legislation regarding the Sri Lanka Cricket Bill aims to clearly define and limit the circumstances under which the Sports Minister may intervene.
