Sri Lanka pledges education infrastructure investment and updates police services
Sri Lankan Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara has pledged continued government investment in upgrading education infrastructure. Speaking at the 150th anniversary of Prince and Princess of Wales’ Colleges, Nanayakkara stated that improving school facilities is essential to nurturing a disciplined and law-abiding younger generation capable of becoming responsible citizens.
The anniversary event was held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. Nanayakkara noted the historical significance of the institutions, which were established in 1876 by philanthropist Sir Charles Henry de Soysa, and highlighted their role in producing prominent legal and diplomatic professionals.
Separately, the Sri Lanka Police announced that applicants can now obtain Police Clearance Certificates through local police stations. This change follows the temporary suspension of the online application system due to essential maintenance. Applicants must download forms from the official police website and submit them in person with required identification, such as a National Identity Card and passport. A fee of Rs. 5,000 is required for the service.
