Sri Lanka promotes digital inclusion and innovation at ESCAP session

During the 5th Session of the Committee on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Sri Lankan Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to a secure and inclusive digital future for the Asia-Pacific region.

Edirisinghe highlighted Sri Lanka’s Digital Economy Strategy and Blueprint for 2025–2030, which focuses on digital inclusion as a primary driver of national transformation. The strategy emphasizes the role of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in improving access to financial, educational, and public services.

To support this transition, the Ambassador noted that Sri Lanka is working to enhance personal data protection, promote digital interoperability within the public sector, and advance electronic commerce. The nation also aims to strengthen partnerships between research institutions, universities, and the private sector to foster science, technology, and innovation.
