Sri Lanka rupee steadies near 336 per US dollar
On July 13, 2026, the Sri Lankan rupee closed at about 336 to the US dollar in the spot market, slightly weaker than Friday's 335.70. Bond yields were broadly steady across maturities, with the 2027 issue at 10.30% and the 2034 issue at 11.80%.
Commercial banks reported the US‑dollar selling rate remaining around Rs 340, with small moves at Seylan, NDB, People’s, Commercial and Sampath banks. The central bank highlighted that tourism foreign‑exchange earnings fell to US$151.1 million in June, the lowest monthly total since October 2023, reflecting ongoing economic strain.
The National Insurance Trust Fund announced a mandatory digital update of public‑sector employee records by July 31, moving all benefit disbursements to its online portal.
