Sri Lanka SME sector targets 25% export growth through new government-industry partnership

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development have entered a bilateral policy dialogue to drive a 25 percent export growth target for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Led by FCCISL President Dr. M. Rohitha Silva and Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe, the partnership aims to integrate the private sector with the government’s National SME Strategy Framework. The initiative seeks to identify and develop between 1,000 and 5,000 scalable SMEs across all provinces.

The roadmap focuses on institutional strengthening, capacity building, and localized incubation systems. Priority sectors for this expansion include Agriculture and Food Security, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Transport and Logistics, with an additional emphasis on strategic import substitution and a sustainable circular economy.
