Sri Lanka University Grants Commission Publishes 2025 A/L Z-Score Cut-Offs

The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka has released the Z‑score cut‑off marks that determine eligibility for university admission based on the 2025 Advanced Level (A/L) examination results. A total of 281,810 candidates sat the exam; 176,570 met the basic qualification criteria and 92,051 applied for university places. Of those applicants, 41,746 students were selected for admission across various streams.

Stream‑specific figures show that the Arts stream had the highest participation (96,429 candidates) with 11,417 selected, while the Commerce, Biological Science, Physical Science, Engineering Technology, Biosystems Technology and other streams together accounted for the remaining seats. The UGC also announced two new courses for the 2025/2026 academic year: a Geographic Information Systems program at the University of Peradeniya and an Electronic and Intelligent Systems Engineering program at the University of Ruhuna, each with a capacity of 50 students.
