Sri Lanka weather: High heat and heavy rain forecast

Sri Lanka is experiencing varied weather conditions, including high heat indices and heavy rainfall in several regions. Due to the sun's southward movement, increased temperatures are expected to be felt in the Eastern Province, as well as in Polonnaruwa, Jaffna, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Moneragala districts.

Heavy rainfall, potentially exceeding 75 mm, is forecast for parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Western Provinces, including Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Other areas, such as Uva, Ampara, Batticaloa, and Hambantota, may experience rain or thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are expected in the central highlands, Northern, North Central, and North Western provinces, along with Trincomalee, Moneragala, Hambantota, and Matale. In certain maritime regions, wind speeds may increase to 50–60 km/h, leading to rough sea conditions. The public is advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and high wind events.
