Sri Lanka weather warning: Heavy rainfall and thundershowers expected

Heavy rainfall and thundershowers are expected across several regions of Sri Lanka. The Department of Meteorology has warned that fairly heavy falls exceeding 75 mm are likely in parts of the Uva and Eastern provinces.

Showers or thundershowers are anticipated in the Uva, Central, and Eastern provinces, as well as the Polonnaruwa district. Additional spells of rain are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Galle and Matara districts. The public is advised to take precautions against localized strong winds and lightning.

Marine conditions include south-westerly winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 60 kmph in certain sea areas. Sea conditions are expected to be rough at times, particularly off the coasts from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
