Sri Lanka weather warning: Showers and rough seas expected
The Department of Meteorology has issued weather warnings for Sri Lanka, forecasting showers or thundershowers across several regions. Expected precipitation includes the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. Additionally, showers may occur in the Uva province and districts including Ampara, Batticaloa, and Mullaitivu after 2:00 pm.
Strong winds of approximately 30-40 kmph are anticipated in the North-central, North-western, Central, and Southern provinces, along with the Trincomalee District. The public is advised to take precautions against localized strong winds and lightning.
Maritime conditions are expected to be rough. Sea areas off the coasts from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota may experience very rough seas, with wave heights potentially reaching 2.5 to 3.0 meters in areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil. Naval and fishing communities have been advised to exercise vigilance and avoid venturing into these high-risk sea areas until further notice.
