Sri Lankan Deputy Minister supports black magic rituals targeting politicians

Chathuranga Abeysinghe, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, has expressed support for recent demonstrations in Colombo involving black magic rituals and curses. These rituals target individuals accused of harming Sri Lanka, specifically those blamed for the country’s economic collapse and the damage of religious and cultural institutions.

Abeysinghe noted that 60 politicians and their relatives have already been imprisoned or faced court cases due to alleged wrongdoing. He stated that between 200 and 300 additional case files regarding such misconduct remain pending.

The Deputy Minister remarked that while black magic remains deeply ingrained in Sri Lankan culture, he sees no issue with citizens invoking curses against those accused of corruption. He further suggested that if such rituals have any efficacy, they might assist investigators in uncovering undiscovered evidence. Abeysinghe also accused former political figures of exploiting religious beliefs to mask corruption and gain public acceptance.
