Sri Lankan Man Ordered to Pay Rs 201,000 to Ceylon Electricity Board
A man in Matara district climbed a high‑voltage transmission pole in Kamburupitiya on July 21, protesting a family dispute. The act disrupted electricity supply for more than two hours across Thihagoda, Akuressa, Deniyaya and surrounding villages.
The Matara Magistrate’s Court found him liable for the damage and ordered payment of Rs 201,059 to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to cover losses. He was remanded pending further proceedings, with the case scheduled for November 3.
