Sri Lankan rupee remains steady against US dollar

The Sri Lankan rupee has maintained a steady position against the US dollar. In spot trading, the currency closed between 331.00 and 331.10, reflecting a period of relative stability in the foreign exchange market following previous economic volatility.

Commercial bank data shows selling rates for the US dollar ranging between Rs. 334 and Rs. 336. While some institutions like Seylan Bank reported slight increases in both buying and selling rates, others such as NDB Bank, People’s Bank, Commercial Bank, and Sampath Bank reported unchanged rates.

This stability comes as Sri Lanka continues to implement an IMF-backed reform programme aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability and rebuilding foreign reserves. Government bond yields have also remained largely unchanged, which market observers interpret as a sign of steady demand and investor confidence in the country's fiscal direction.
