Sri Lankan Rupee weakens slightly against US Dollar

The Sri Lankan rupee experienced modest weakening against the US dollar on Monday, September 21, 2026. In the spot market, the currency was quoted at 331.00/25, compared to the previous Friday's rate of 330.75/331.25.

Commercial bank rates showed varied movements. At NDB Bank, the buying rate decreased to Rs. 326.50 and the selling rate fell to Rs. 335.50. Conversely, Commercial Bank and Sampath Bank reported increases in both buying and selling rates for the US dollar.

Domestic bond yields moved lower across several maturities, including securities maturing in 2030, 2031, and 2032. Market participants attributed the decline in yields partly to falling global oil prices, which may impact Sri Lanka’s external position by reducing petroleum import costs.
