Sri Lankan Teachers Convene at BMICH to Shape AI‑Driven Education
Educators, school leaders and policy makers from across Sri Lanka gathered on 25 July at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) for the International Forum for Teachers 2026 (IFT 2026). Organized by Gateway Graduate School, the forum’s theme “From Knowing to Being: Preparing for a World Yet to Be Defined” focused on integrating artificial‑intelligence literacy, critical thinking, resilience and creativity into classroom practice.
Key sessions included Dananjaya Hettiarachchi’s talk on “Learning to Navigate, Not Just Know,” Dr. Carl Salt’s discussion on ethical AI use in education, and presentations on building resilience for an uncertain future. The event also announced a new partnership between Gateway and Oxford University Press to support professional development for teachers.
Participants emphasized the need to redefine the teacher’s role as AI tools handle routine tasks, ensuring Sri Lanka’s education system remains relevant and adaptable amid rapid technological change.
