Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis ruled out of Lanka Premier League, doubts remain for India Test series

Wicket‑keeper batter Kusal Mendis suffered a right hamstring injury while playing for the Colombo Kaps against the Kandy Royals in the Lanka Premier League on 19 July. Sri Lanka Cricket announced that he will miss the remainder of the LPL and will begin rehabilitation at the National High‑Performance Centre.

Mendis’s fitness is now uncertain for the two‑match home Test series against India, scheduled to start on 15 August at Galle and continue at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The injury comes as Sri Lanka prepares to face one of the world’s strongest Test sides, and his possible absence creates selection challenges for the squad.

Before the injury, Mendis had been in strong form, scoring 79 off 53 balls in his LPL debut and posting high strike‑rate totals in both the Pakistan Super League and recent T20 internationals, making him a key player for Sri Lanka’s batting and wicket‑keeping duties.
