Sri Petaling suspicious package found to contain building blocks

A suspicious plastic box found in front of a shop in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, was destroyed by authorities after initial inspections suggested high radiation readings. The incident prompted a large-scale response involving the Kuala Lumpur Police Bomb Disposal Unit, the Bukit Aman Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRE) Unit, and the Malaysian Nuclear Agency.

Using a Recoilless Disruptor 5.0, the bomb disposal unit destroyed the package, revealing that it contained several boxes of colorful building blocks rather than explosives or hazardous materials. A follow-up inspection by the Atomic Energy Department confirmed that no radioactive readings were detected at the scene.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that an investigation is underway under Section 506 of the Penal Code. Authorities have advised the public against spreading false information that could cause public anxiety or threaten public order.
