SriLankan Airlines plans network expansion to Perth, China, and Africa
SriLankan Airlines is exploring the expansion of its international route network to include destinations in Perth, China, and Africa. CEO Vipula Gunatilleka Mishra stated that the national carrier aims to lead the development of these routes to support Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and economic recovery.
The airline identifies strong demand in Perth following recent tourism initiatives and views restarting connections to China as a necessity for deploying capacity. Additionally, the carrier intends to revive long-discontinued routes to Africa. Mishra noted that while these new routes may initially operate with lower passenger loads, the national carrier has a responsibility to establish these connections to foster long-term tourism growth and transit traffic through Colombo.
