Srirangam Temple east gate tower to reopen after three years

The east gate tower of the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, which has been closed for three years, is set to reopen to the public on August 9. The closure began following the sudden collapse of the front arch section of the Damodara Krishnan Temple tower on August 5, 2023.

Temple administration conducted restoration works under the guidance of sculptural experts, archaeological officials, and sthapathis to ensure the structure was repaired without altering its ancient character. Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister S. Ramesh reportedly inspected the site twice to expedite the process, leading to intensive work over the last two months.

The reopening will begin with special prayers at 8:00 AM. The tower's reopening aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by devotees and the public, particularly during major festivals like Vaikunta Ekadasi, when access through this gateway was restricted.
