Regional cultural and culinary festivals celebrate Balkan heritage
Various regional cultural and culinary events are being held across the Balkans, focusing on the preservation of local traditions and heritage.
In Petrovo, the ‘Ozrenska jesen’ event showcased approximately 50 exhibitors offering agricultural, artisanal, and confectionery products. Similarly, in Virovitica, the ‘Jesen u gradu’ fair brought together local craftsmen and farmers to promote regional economy and skills.
Culinary traditions remain a central theme. In Grud, the 14th ‘Raštikijada’ festival will celebrate Herzegovinian cuisine through innovative dishes made from raštika. In Šenkovec, local retirees prepared 60 liters of traditional goulash for a community event. In Jajce, the 25th ‘Šopovi dani na Plivi’ concluded with literary and musical programs honoring the poet Nikola Šop.
Social and educational initiatives are also prominent. In Gudurica, the ‘Neko misli na vas’ project fostered intergenerational connections between students and seniors. In Leposavić, children participated in a religious and cultural trip to the Rakovica monastery in Belgrade. In Gornji Kraljevec, the ‘Mamičina škrija’ event focused on preserving ancestral recipes and stories to pass down to younger generations.
