Sérvulo Esmeraldo exhibition opens in Recife

A free exhibition titled ‘Esse é Sérvulo Esmeraldo’ is currently being held at Caixa Cultural Recife, celebrating the career of the late Brazilian artist Sérvulo Esmeraldo. The showcase features approximately 50 works spanning nearly 70 years of his career, including sculptures, paintings, drawings, and engravings.

Esmeraldo, a pioneer of kinetic art in Brazil, was heavily influenced by his time studying in Paris, where he engaged with movements exploring motion and optical illusions. His work often merges art with science, exemplified by his ‘Excitáveis’ series which utilizes static electricity. The exhibition highlights his interest in geometric forms, particularly the triangle, and includes series such as ‘Planos e Volumes Virtuais’, ‘Sólidos Geométricos’, and ‘Teoremas’.

The exhibition is open to the public until October 25.
