Sørøyrocken Festival Ends After Six Years in Finnmark
The annual Sørøyrocken music festival on the island of Sørøya in Norway’s Finnmark county will be held for the last time. Organiser Johannes Vang, who has been involved since the event’s start in 2018, said the festival has repeatedly struggled with high operational costs, inadequate transport provision and limited support from the municipal and county authorities. Repeated requests for additional ferry services, a dedicated bus route and funding for venue maintenance were denied, leaving the volunteer‑run organisation to cover many expenses themselves.
Faced with rising expenses and the removal of the annual “Rockebåten” ferry, the team concluded that continuing the festival is no longer financially viable. The final edition marks the end of a cultural event that has become a social hub for the local community.
