SS 36 infrastructure and connectivity issues raised in Italy

Senator Tino Magni has submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport regarding critical issues on the SS 36, a strategic road connecting Brianza, Lecco, and Valtellina. The inquiry follows recent flooding between Suello and Civate caused by heavy rainfall, which paralyzed local traffic and highlighted the road's lack of resilience to extreme weather.

Beyond flood management, the inquiry seeks clarity on several infrastructure projects, including the definitive design for the Monte Piazzo tunnel, the implementation of a third lane exiting Lecco on the Manzoni bridge, and the status of cycling infrastructure along the SS 36 axis.

In a related concern, local industrial leaders from Confindustria Lecco and Sondrio have criticized the lack of mobile phone connectivity within the tunnels of the SS 36 and SS 38. Marco Campanari, president of Confindustria Lecco and Sondrio, noted that despite promises of digital infrastructure improvements following Olympic investments, drivers face a near-total loss of signal for approximately 40 km between Lecco and Colico. Business leaders argue that improving connectivity is essential for safety, economic opportunity, and regional productivity.
