SS Rajamouli's film Varanasi to feature 30‑minute epic Rama vs Kumbhakarna battle

Director SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi will include a 30‑minute showdown between the mythological figures Rama and Kumbhakarna, as revealed by writer Vijayendra Prasad. Mahesh Babu has been confirmed to play Rama, while the actor for Kumbhakarna remains unconfirmed, with speculation focusing on Prithviraj Sukumaran. The sequence reportedly required about 60 days of shooting and is described as one of Rajamouli’s most ambitious set‑pieces.

The movie also stars Priyanka Chopra, marking her return to Indian cinema, and is slated for release in 2027. While Prasad offered visual hints such as Lord Hanuman’s tail and a chariot, he stopped short of further details to preserve the film’s surprises.
