SSFF & ASIA 2027 Short Film Festival Opens Global Submissions

The Short Short Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), an international short‑film festival founded in 1999 and accredited by the U.S. Academy Awards, announced that submissions for its 2027 edition opened on 1 August 2026. The call covers eight competition sections: Live‑Action (International, Asia‑International, Japan), Non‑Fiction, Animation, Cinematic Tokyo (in partnership with Tokyo), U‑25 (for directors under 25), Branded Shorts (year‑round), Book Shorts and a Japanese short‑drama contest. Winners in the Live‑Action, Non‑Fiction and Animation categories become eligible for nomination in the Academy Awards short‑film segment.

The festival’s grand prize, the George Lucas Award, is presented to the overall winner. Submissions are handled through the Visual Voice‑run creator platform LIFE LOG BOX, which automatically provides entrants with a digital wallet for upcoming NFT voting and marketplace activities. Accepted works may also be streamed on Disney+.

Application windows open at 14:00 on 1 August, with deadlines varying by category. Finalist lists will be posted on the festival website in the months following the submission period, and the selected films will be screened at the award ceremony in April 2027.
