SSNIT: Former Board Chair responds to Chief Justice

Former Chairperson of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Board of Trustees, Elizabeth Ohene, has responded to comments made by the Chief Justice regarding the institution's past performance. The Chief Justice had reportedly praised the current state of SSNIT while lamenting its condition during the previous eight years, specifically mentioning the potential sale of the Labadi Beach Hotel.

Ohene, who served as Board Chair from August 2021 to January 2025, defended the previous administration against claims of mismanagement. She noted that current management is also reportedly seeking strategic investors for the hotels. The controversy stems from the ‘SSNIT Hotels Scandal,’ involving allegations of corruption raised by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa regarding the proposed divestment of a 60 percent interest in SSNIT-owned hotels, which led to a petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
