St. Anne’s Hospital mortuary engines fail, leaving two bodies in limbo

Two deceased former teachers are currently held at St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in Damongo following the breakdown of the two engines powering the facility’s mortuary refrigerators. The failure occurred two days prior to reports on September 28, 2026.

The deceased have been identified as Abu Seidu, a former teacher from Gindabour, and Achempong Amafom Makline, a former teacher from Daboya. Seidu’s body was deposited by police following a death that triggered the lynching of Constable Kofi Redeemer Owusu. Makline’s body was deposited by officials from the Ghana Education Service.

Hospital sources indicated that the refrigeration engines were procured in 2013 and have not undergone a major overhaul in 13 years. This incident marks the third engine failure recorded at the facility this year, prompting concerns regarding maintenance protocols. Hospital management has not yet issued a public statement regarding repairs.
