PRESEC-Legon wins record ninth NSMQ title after comeback
Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) has secured a record ninth National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) title following a significant comeback in the 2026 grand finale. After trailing both St. Augustine’s College and Accra Academy with only 9 points in the opening round, PRESEC-Legon surged ahead in later rounds to finish with 40 points, defeating Accra Academy (33 points) and St. Augustine’s College (27 points).
The competition, held at the University of Ghana, featured high-stakes motivation from alumni. St. Augustine’s College supporters pledged a GH¢120,000 package, while Accra Academy alumni established an educational fund to provide full tertiary scholarships for their contestants.
Accra Academy made its first-ever appearance in the NSMQ grand finale, while PRESEC-Legon returned to the championship stage after a two-year absence to extend its record as the most successful school in the competition's history.
