St Austell Town Council to relocate to former social club

St Austell Town Council has confirmed plans to relocate its offices and depot to the former Mount Charles Social Club on Clifden Road. The move follows a successful bid to purchase the site, which the council identified as a rare opportunity due to its central location, size, and existing parking facilities.

The relocation is necessitated by the expiring lease on the council’s current premises at the Stable Block on Penwinnick Road. That site is slated for redevelopment as part of a larger housing scheme managed by Treveth, a development company owned by Cornwall Council.

Town clerk David Pooley stated that the purchase and subsequent refurbishment will be funded through the council’s reserves without the need for borrowing. The council expects the move to consolidate meetings, office work, and grounds maintenance into a single site, ultimately reducing long-term rental and energy costs.
