St. Cloud City Council candidates campaign for upcoming elections

Candidates are campaigning for various seats on the St. Cloud City Council in the upcoming election.

In the Ward 4 race for an open seat, newcomers Craig Heurung and Joe Baratta are competing. Heurung, a retired professional with experience on various boards, emphasizes listening to residents and addressing the decline in the city's manufacturing and university sectors. Baratta, a labor representative, focuses on local issues such as affordability, e-bike regulations, and the need for more parks in developing areas.

In Ward 1, Charlie Hobbs is challenging incumbent Dave Masters. Hobbs, a former professor and current planning commissioner, is advocating for expanded police co-responder programs, increased housing availability, and free evening street parking downtown to encourage revitalization.

In Ward 2, incumbent Karen Larson is running unopposed for a second term. Larson intends to continue her focus on infrastructure, public safety, and economic development, while maintaining a positive approach to city council culture.
