St. Gallen reports traffic violations and child/adult protection statistics
In the Canton of St. Gallen, recent traffic enforcement operations between October 22 and October 23, 2026, resulted in seven individuals being reported to the public prosecutor. Violations included driving under the influence, driving while incapacitated, and operating vehicles without valid licenses. Notably, a 34-year-old e-scooter rider recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.9 mg/l and sustained minor injuries following a self-inflicted accident in Au.
Separately, the Canton of St. Gallen and nine regional child and adult protection authorities released their 2025 key figures report. The data shows that adult protection measures remained relatively stable compared to the national average, with 5,479 measures in place for 5,465 adults. While comprehensive guardianships that fully revoke capacity to act decreased by 69, tailored measures—such as accompaniment, representation, and participation guardianships—increased by 209, reflecting a trend toward preserving individual self-determination.
Child and youth protection measures saw a 2% increase, with 4,051 measures implemented for 2,967 children and adolescents. This rise indicates a higher frequency of individualized measures per person, increasing the complexity of work for specialized professionals.
