St George Mining partners with Brazil's Minas Gerais for rare earths centre
St George Mining, the Lima & Pergher Group, and the State of Minas Gerais have entered a “Protocol of Intent” to explore the establishment of a rare earths processing centre in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The proposed facility aims to support a fully domestic Brazilian “mine-to-magnet” supply chain, reducing dependence on foreign processing. The centre will focus on midstream activities, refining feedstocks such as rare earth concentrates, mixed rare earth carbonates (MREC), and oxalates into high-value materials for magnet manufacturing.
The project is expected to be located at an existing industrial complex in Uberlândia operated by Lima & Pergher’s chemical division, START. St George will provide technical expertise and feedstock from its Araxá rare earths and niobium project. The State of Minas Gerais, through Invest Minas, will support the initiative by assisting with licensing, supplier relationships, and state tax incentive applications.
