St George's Hill Lawn Tennis Club members protest goose culling

Members of the exclusive St George's Hill Lawn Tennis Club in Weybridge, Surrey, have accused management of attempting to “deliberately conceal” the culling of resident Canada geese and their goslings.

Following reports of gunshots heard early on 16 July, it was revealed that eight geese had been killed by hired marksmen. The club's chief executive, Miles Hill, stated the decision was not taken lightly, noting that months of non-lethal control attempts had failed and that goose droppings on the courts created health and safety concerns.

Club members have expressed outrage, alleging they were initially told the birds had been rehomed or had “flown off.” Long-term member Seema Parikh raised concerns regarding the integrity of the club's leadership and noted that junior staff appeared to have been instructed to repeat the inaccurate rehoming story to members.
