St Helens likely to miss out on head coach candidate Ben Te’o

St Helens is expected to miss out on Queensland assistant coach Ben Te’o as a candidate for their vacant head coaching position. Following the departure of Paul Rowley last month, the club has been searching for a permanent replacement, with interim coach Eamon O’Carroll currently leading the team.

Reports indicate that Te’o, who has previous experience in the northern hemisphere playing rugby union, is likely to remain in the NRL. He is reportedly being headhunted by Wayne Bennett to serve as an assistant coach for the South Sydney Rabbitohs starting in the 2027 season. While there was speculation regarding Te’o potentially taking the head coaching role for Queensland following Billy Slater’s resignation, he has distanced himself from those reports.

Additionally, interim coach Eamon O’Carroll is set to depart the club and rugby league at the end of the season to join the Welsh rugby union side Scarlets as an assistant coach.
