St. John the Baptist celebrations draw diaspora to Ravska and Graberje villages

The parish of St. John the Baptist in Ravska held a major liturgical celebration on 24 June 2026, attracting about five hundred faithful from Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, Austria and the United States. Clergy from Bosnia‑Herzegovina, Slovenia and the local diocese led the Mass, which highlighted gratitude for life and contrasted local prosperity with hardships in parts of Africa.

In Graberje, Croatia, the village marked both the feast of St. John the Baptist and its own village day on 27 June 2026. After a six‑year hiatus due to earthquake‑damage recovery, the refurbished fire‑house hosted the revived “Ivanjski susreti” cultural program, featuring folk groups from the surrounding region and speeches emphasizing community rebuilding and youth attraction.

Both events illustrate how traditional religious festivals are being used to reinforce communal identity, involve diaspora members, and showcase post‑disaster reconstruction in the Balkans.
