Bright SHS and PRESEC-Legon advance to NSMQ semi-finals

The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) quarter-finals at the University of Cape Coast produced two historic results as schools secured spots in the semi-finals.

Bright Senior High School became the first private school in the 33-year history of the competition to reach the semi-final stage. After trailing for much of the contest, Bright SHS secured a dramatic comeback in the final round, finishing with 27 points to narrowly defeat Chemu Senior High Technical School (26 points) and Amaniampong Senior High School (22 points).

In a separate high-stakes match, PRESEC-Legon eliminated the defending champions, Mfantsipim School, to advance to the semi-finals. PRESEC-Legon finished with 56 points, while Mfantsipim scored 39. Presbyterian Senior High School, Bompata, also competed in the match, finishing with 24 points. The victory for PRESEC-Legon marks a significant step in their pursuit of a record ninth championship title.
