St. Landry Parish approves cash rewards for littering tips
The St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers Board of Directors has approved cash rewards for tips that lead to littering enforcement, which may include citations or arrests. This initiative comes as littering costs Louisiana taxpayers approximately $91 million annually for abatement efforts.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is partnering with St. Landry Crime Stoppers to combat the issue. Officials noted that even ‘simple littering,’ such as trash flying out of a truck bed, can result in fines of up to $175 plus court costs. Residents can report littering via the Crime Stoppers line or the P3 mobile app.
