St. Louis Cardinals defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1

The Pittsburgh Pirates suffered a 4-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, continuing an offensive slump where the team has scored only 12 runs across seven games on their current road trip.

Jimmy Crooks provided the decisive blow for the Cardinals with a two-run home run in the third inning. St. Louis added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and an insurance run in the eighth following a throwing error by Jacob Gonzalez. Cardinals starter Quinn Matthews earned his first career win, striking out seven over 5.2 innings.
