St. Louis Cardinals face injury woes and recent losses

The St. Louis Cardinals have faced a challenging period following a series of wins, including a three-of-five series victory against the Cincinnati Reds. Their momentum shifted during a recent trip to Philadelphia, where they were swept by the Phillies and outscored 19-13.

Individual performances remained notable despite the team's struggles. Jordan Walker recorded 12 hits and three home runs during the week, while Jose Fermin contributed seven hits and six RBIs, including a key ninth-inning rally against the Reds.

On the pitching front, the Cardinals are managing significant rotation issues due to injuries to Hunter Dobbins and Andre Pallante, as well as Richard Fitts being sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 season. To address these depth concerns, the team signed Josh Fleming to a minor league contract. Fleming, a former pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays, is expected to pitch for Memphis as the team evaluates his potential as a starting option.
